‘What is this phenomenon called “suppression”?’

Today, someone asked me, ‘What is this phenomenon called “suppression”?’, regarding a relationship issue he’s been having with a family member.
My answer:
That is a concept that, if you accept it, indoctrinates you to fail to relate to people when you have a problem with them, and to blame them for your condition. It shrinks you and your world. Instead, aspire to understand why the other person says what he says and does what he does, by being willing to get the idea of being him, seeing things from his viewpoint, and thus extending and expanding yourself to be something more.
Love, Dex
